Custom Baby Gate

Is it worth it?

I can’t even count how many times I knocked over, fell through, missed the latch on the baby gates we used with our daughter.  You know, those standard metal and plastic things you buy at Babies ‘R Us or Target.  There was never a good way to drill it into the railing or the stairs, so it got dislodged from the wall pretty often.  Luckily it did its job keeping our daughter safe, but I hear boys are a bit more, shall we say, feisty?, and I’m worried about them holding up for another round of baby-proofing.

Now that we’re moving, I wonder if it makes sense to build a baby gate, permanently mount it, and never have to worry about getting my shins all banged up again.  Or worry about the kids falling down the stairs.  Duh.

Here’s a few more inspiration images and a tutorial I found for the first image.

So, what do you think?  Do you have one or know anyone who does?  Should we do it? (And by “we” I mean my contractor, since I don’t know the first thing about pocket holes and Kreg tools.)  TIA!
